Dictionary of Environmental Health
is a temperature-measuring device comprising two wires of different metals connected to form a circuit. If one junction of the wires is maintained at a constant temperature and the other junction subjected to a change in temperature an electrical current is created, the strength of which is proportional to the temperature change.
