supertanker

An exceptionally large ship used to transport PETROLEUM or similar. There are varying definitions as to what size is sufficient to define a tanker as a supertanker. Most sources suggest it is one with a dead-weight capacity of 100,000 tonnes, although others suggest the capacity as 500,000 tons. Some sources suggest the defining capacity as 75,000 tonnes or tons.
