stellate cells

(stellate NEURON) These are NON-PYRAMIDAL NEURONS, found in the CEREBRAL CORTEX and cerebellum (see CEREBELLUM—ANATOMICAL ORGANIZATION) which function as INTERNEURONS. They are called star cells because their dendritic organization gives the impression of the cells being star-shaped.
