A Popular Dictionary of Buddhism

Sāriputta (P.) S(h)āriputra (Sk.)

One of the two chief disciples of the Buddha, also called Upatissa. Regarded as second only to the Buddha in ‘turning the Wheel of the Law’. His ashes were found with those of Moggallāna (q.v.) in one of the Stūpas at Sanchi (q.v.). See Relics for their later move to London and back.
