(10th Century BCE). King of *Judah and *Israel. Solomon was the son of King *David by his wife Bathsheba and he was *anointed by *Zadok the *priest and *Nathan the *prophet.
His kingdom extended from Egypt to the River Euphrates and through foreign alliances and judicious marriages, his wealth and splendour were renown. He initiated several building projects including the *Temple in *Jerusalem, but he was condemned by later commentators for his tolerance of his foreign wives’ *idolatry.
