Slang refers to informal words and expressions often thought to be inferior to standard forms of language. But perhaps it is more to do with what is appropriate in a particular context. Slang is used to identify us with an age group or a social group. People who normally use standard English may use slang words and phrases if they are relaxing with a group of people with whom they share activities and attitudes.
Although some ‘slang’ words become accepted into language and even into dictionaries, the colloquial expressions in vogue change constantly.
