The system of bones or other hard tissue that provides a framework for an organism; an animal may have an endoskeleton (inside the body; as humans and all vertebrates) or an exoskeleton (outer casings covering the body tissues; as beetles, etc.). The CYTOSKELETON is an internal frame supporting individual cells.
