SHEKINAH

(Hebrew. ‘Dwelling’).

*God’s presence. The Shekinah may refer to God himself, but more usually to God’s presence in the world. It is often described as a light or a radiance which illuminates the world, rests on the people of *Israel and sustains the *angels in *Heaven. The *kabbalists identified the Shekinah with the tenth of the sefirot and it represents the feminine principle.
