SEFIROT

The emanations of *God. According to *kabbalistic teaching, ten sefirot emerge from the divine. All together they form a dynamic unit and each one points to a different element in God’s *creative nature.

They are sometimes portrayed as a tree. The three highest are the Supreme Crown, Wisdom and Intelligence. The seven lower are Love, Power, Beauty, Endurance, Majesty, Foundation and Kingdom. The theory of the sefirot was outlined in the *Sefer Yetzirah and was clearly influenced by *gnostic thought.
