(Hebrew. ‘Order’) The order of service particularly at *Passover.
The seder usually refers to the home Passover ritual which is described in the *Haggadah. In the *diaspora it takes place on two consecutive nights (see *SECOND DAY OF FESTIVALS) and includes recitation of the *kiddush, the hiding of the *afikomen, the sharing of special foods, a festival meal, songs, the recitation of the *Hallel and the drinking of four cups of *wine. The structure and order of the ritual is laid down in the *Mishnah.
