SECOND DAY OF FESTIVALS

The second day on which *festivals are celebrated in the *diaspora.

It became customary to celebrate all festivals except *Yom Kippur for two consecutive days to make sure they were was definitely celebrated on the correct day. Although this practice has been abandoned by *Progressive Jews, it is still maintained by the *Orthodox and various customs have grown up connected with the second days of festivals.
