SCAPEGOAT

A *sin-offering *sacrificed on *Yom Kippur. On Yom Kippur, lots were cast between two goats. One was slaughtered and the other, the scapegoat, was dedicated to *Azazel and released into the wilderness. After the destruction of the *Temple in 70CE, the sacrificial system came to an end and the scapegoat ritual was no longer practised.
