The term response topography is typically encountered in OPERANT studies: it relates to the precise way in which a response is to be made.
At one level, subjects may be required to emit different types of response; see NOSE POKE vs. LEVER PRESS for example. Alternatively, a requirement might be made for delivering the same response but in different ways: pressing a lever firmly or weakly for example.
