The agent of God’s redemption will be the *messiah; the land of *Israel will be restored to the Jewish people and, after a final judgment, all the righteous, both Jew and *gentile will be saved to live in God’s light forever. Although these beliefs in redemption are part of the *principles of the Jewish faith, in modern times redemption is more frequently understood in terms of the triumph of good over evil in this world. *Progressive Jews in particular tend to emphasize individual salvation as part of earthly human growth and development.
