RAIN FOREST

Dense forests growing in tropical areas with high rainfall.

In climatological terms, a rain forest is defined as having continuously high temperatures, high annual rainfall and diurnal temperature variation often higher than the annual variation. 12 million hectares are lost each year to logging and cut and burn for agricultural land. These losses are considered very serious because of the effect on climate and destruction of species, with attendant loss of genetic blueprints.
