Single-celled organisms which have both plant and animal characteristics. They range from viruses (30–300 nm) to protozoa (500–50 000 nm). They are divided into prokaryotes, which do not have genetic material divided from the rest of the cell in a membrane, and eukaryotes, which have a true nucleus.
