Dictionary of Biological Psychology
Any ENZYME that transfers phosphate groups from ADENOSINE TRIPHOSPHATE (ATP) to PROTEINS is called a PROTEIN KINASE. These are widely involved in mechanisms of communication between cells (see SECOND MESSENGERS).
