(from Latin, parere: to bring out) Parturition is the process of childbirth; post-partum refers to the period immediately after this.

This is more or less synonymous with POSTNATAL. If a discrimination between the two terms were to be made it would be in terms of duration: postpartum typically refers to period immediately following childbirth whereas the term postnatal is the counterpoint to prenatal. Pre- and postnatal can refer to points in time months before and after birth.
