A complex biochemical process whereby green plants produce chemical energy. CHLOROPHYLL in the plant converts solar energy (sunlight) into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is then used in a series of reactions using CARBON DIOXIDE and water to produce CARBOHYDRATES (in the form of SUGARS such as GLUCOSE) and oxygen.
