PASCHAL LAMB

The lamb *sacrificed in the *Temple at the *Passover *Festival.

Traditionally the Paschal lamb was sacrificed on Nisan 14, was roasted whole and eaten by the community. This custom ended with the destruction of the *Temple in 70 CE although a bone is still put on the *seder plate to symbolise the paschal lamb. The *Samaritans continue to sacrifice a lamb at Passover time on Mount *Gerizim.
