nucleotides

Nucleotides are the building blocks of a NUCLEIC ACID, of which the most notable are RIBONUCLEIC ACID (RNA) and DEOXYRIBONUCLEIC ACID (DNA). The latter contains the nucleotides adenine, thymine, guanine, and cytosine: in RNA, thymidine is substituted by uracil. They are five-carbon sugars bonded to nitrogen bases with phosphate groups attached; not to be confused with NUCLEOSIDES.
