Nihilism

The philosophic doctrine that denies a substantial reality to the phenomenal universe. Bsm. takes the middle path between the realists (astika), who maintain the universe to be real, and the non-realists (nāstika), who deny all reality. The Buddha condemned both the astika and the nāstika concepts. (See Mādhyamika.)
