The new deal is part of the Welfare to Work policy for those over 18.

It gives the unemployed, disabled, lone parents and some others, the chance to develop knowledge and skills and to find work. This scheme began within the Department for Education and Employment (DfEE) but was transferred to the Department for Work and Pensions after the General Election in 2001.
