This has become part of the vocabulary we use to refer to the increasing range of media children encounter on the journey towards literacy. According to a research report Young People and ICT (BECTA, 2003) British children are the biggest users of the Internet in Europe and many have experience of computer use and the Internet before they come to school.
At school they will use and make both e-Books and print books. Their multimedia presentations often integrate video-film and digital photographs and children’s own pictures and their speech and writing can be included in exciting ways.
As we might expect, we find increasing use of mobile phones and text messaging in children’s role play and improvised drama.
