Dictionary of Biological Psychology

midline

The brain is divided into two hemispheres (see HEMISPHERE): the midline is an imaginary line that runs along the surface of the brain from ANTERIOR to POSTERIOR which perfectly separates the right hemisphere from the left.

Though this line is imaginary in so far as there is not an actual line present dividing the hemispheres, there are physical representations of it. There is a large blood vessel that runs along the midline of the rodent brain (the MIDLINE SINUS) and the SKULL has a midline SUTURE. These give an accurate indication of the position of the midline, essential in rodent STEREOTAXIC SURGERY.

This is the complete article, containing 103 words (approx. 1 page at 300 words per page).
