It contains four parts: (1) the PARAMEDIAN RETICULAR AREA (involved in fine MOTOR CONTROL); (2) NUCLEUS GIGANTOCELLULARIS (involved in the regulation of SLEEP and tone of MUSCLES); (3) the LATERAL RETICULAR AREA (containing the LATERAL RETICULAR NUCLEUS and PARVOCELLULAR RETICULAR NUCLEUS); and (4) INTERMEDIATE RETICULAR NUCLEUS (concerned with AUTONOMIC functions).
