, also: Skanda and Kumāra (in Tamil: Murugan) the god of war and disease, son of Śiva from his seed which he cast into fire. The ashes with his seed were then swept into who brought him forth in due course.

He is therefore also regarded as the son of Agni and of and sometimes called Agnibhū and . But in another version Śiva begot him alone in his form as Ardhanārī. He was brought up by the (Pleiades) and then adopted by Pārvatī. His mount is a peacock.
