A Popular Dictionary of Judaism
A book of the *Bible, divided into two parts. The Books of Kings contain the history of Kings *David and *Solomon, the division of the kingdom, the destruction of the *Northern Kingdom by the Assyrians, the continued history of the *Southern Kingdom and the Babylonian conquest.
The Books are generally thought to have been compiled in the mid 6th Century by a writer profoundly influenced by the thought of the Book of *Deuteronomy. He was convinced that both the Assyrian and Babylonian conquests were the results of the *Jews’ unfaithfulness to *God. (See *DEUTERONOMIC HISTORIAN).
