Bsm. was early known in Kashmir, and Asoka (q.v.) added it to his empire. A later Bst. patron was the Kushan King Kanishka, who held a Bst. Council in the capital, Srinagar, which Asoka had founded. The Bst. art of the country, of high degree of workmanship, showed Greek influence.
