JUDAH HALEVY

(1075–1141) Spanish poet and philosopher.

Judah Halevy was a prolific poet and about eight hundred examples of his work survive. His Sefer ha-Kuzari is a philosophic work based on the legend of the King of the Khazars who invited an Aristotelian philosopher, a Christian, a Muslim and a Jew to expound their beliefs before him. It has proved immensely popular and was particularly influential on the *Kabbalists.
