A Popular Dictionary of Judaism

JOEL, THE BOOK OF

A Biblical *prophetic book. The Book of Joel describes a terrible plague of locusts and the people are urged to entreat *God’s mercy.

This is followed by lengthy prophecy of the ‘great and terrible *Day of the Lord’ from which only a small *remnant would be saved and the *Holy Spirit would be poured out on all flesh. The book falls into two clear parts and it is possible that each part had a different author. In any case its date is uncertain.
