Jarovit

(Latinized as Gerovitus) West Slavonic god, venerated in Pomerania. The jar component in his name means ‘violent’, ‘fiery’. At the time of the conversion of the West Slavs, Jarovit was compared by one writer to → Mars; that is to say, he was accredited with the functions of a war-god.
