International Association of African and American Black Business People
The International Association of African and American Black Business People (IAAABBP) was founded in 1965. William Bert Johnson served as president, and the association was located at several Detroit addresses. Established to encourage entrepreneurial education and activities in the African business community in the United States, Africa, and internationally, the group had a membership of eighty-four thousand African and American entrepreneurs, including forty-six state groups in the United States and 170 regional groups in Africa. Approximately 130 staff members assisted Johnson in publication of a bimonthly bulletin and a quarterly journal, both published in English.
The IAAABBP collected and compiled statistics about businesses on both continents, sponsored educational seminars about the creation and management of businesses, and presented awards to notable business owners and managers in the African American economic community. The group sponsored annual meetings, including the 1988 conference in Tanzania and a 1988 program in Ghana. The IAAABBP became defunct sometime after those conferences.
