Founded by Ingvar Kamprad in 1943, the IKEA franchise had expanded by 2004 to 201 stores in 35 countries across four continents. In the 2004 financial year sales totalled €12,800m. The IKEA Group is owned by the Stichting INGKA, a charitable foundation registered in the Netherlands. Stichting INGKA in turn owns INGKA Holding BV, the parent company for the IKEA Group companies.
