Shrine built on a hill in the Land of *Israel. Once the *Temple in *Jerusalem had been built, it was condemned as *idolatrous to worship at a high place. However once the *Northern Kingdom had separated from the *Southern, the *Northern Kings encouraged worship at the high places to prevent their people going down to Jerusalem.
