HETEROTROPHS

These organisms need organic material as food and energy sources. Aerobes are heterotrophs which use dissolved oxygen. Anaerobes are those which oxidize organic matter in the absence of dissolved oxygen and facultative organisms are those which can carry on metabolism either with dissolved oxygen or can metabolize food using combined oxygen from other sources.
