Heidegger, Martin

. 1889–1976. Born in Baden, he lived and taught in Germany, especially in Freiburg. He was a leading EXISTENTIALIST and his work centred round an investigation of ‘being’, both that which is proper to human beings, ‘Dasein’, and that which belongs to things in general. In his early days he was much influenced by HUSSERL. Sein und Zeit (Being and Time), 1927.
