A Dictionary of Philosophy, Third Edition
. 1889–1976. Born in Baden, he lived and taught in Germany, especially in Freiburg. He was a leading EXISTENTIALIST and his work centred round an investigation of ‘being’, both that which is proper to human beings, ‘Dasein’, and that which belongs to things in general.
