HAGGAI, THE BOOK OF

A *Biblical book among the canon of *Minor Prophets. Haggai himself is mentioned in the Book of *Ezra 5:1.

His prophecies are mainly concerned with the rebuilding of the *Temple. His first oracles can be dated to the late 6th Century BCE. After the people had begun to rebuild, Haggai predicted that the second Temple would be even more splendid than the first and that the Israelites’ leader, *Zerubbabel, would be the ‘signet ring of the Lord’.
