the name of a dynasty which ruled during the Golden Age of Indian civilization (cca A.D.

320–510). It represents the peak of Buddhist, Hindu and Jain artistic development in sculpture and architecture as well as cave painting (see Ajantā). One of the finest examples of Hindu sculpture of this period is Anantaśāyin on the south wall of the Daśāvatāra Temple in Deogarh.
