European Economic Community (EEC)
The European Economic Community (EEC) was established by the Treaty of Rome in 1958.
The EEC institutional framework was merged with the European Coal and Steel Community and the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) in 1967. From then on the EEC was officially referred to as the European Communities or European Community (EC), although the EEC was still in common use. The Treaty on European Union of 1992 confirmed that the EC would be the official term, and the Treaty of Rome was amended accordingly.
