An epiphany is a special moment of insight when an idea or situation is seen with new clarity. Let me give an example.
A teacher read Anthony Browne’s picture book Zoo to six year olds who had not thought of keeping animals in cages as controversial. When the mother in the story comments ‘poor thing’ when the tiger is seen pacing up and down its cage they suddenly saw things in a new light. Perhaps, they said, it was cruel to enclose creatures who needed a lot of space (Riley and Reedy, 2000).
