Radical adult educators use the term in relation to providing a social class, eg the working classes, with the awareness and knowledge to act in and upon the social structures so that people can restructure society in a more egalitarian manner. 2. More conservative and progressive adult educators use the term to refer to equipping and raising the confidence of individuals so that they can be more successful in the world.
