Routledge Dictionary of Economics, Second Edition

employers’ association (J5)

A federation of firms of one industry which jointly engages in COLLECTIVE BARGAINING with the TRADE UNIONS representing their workers.

As employers usually apply negotiated wages to all of their workers, irrespective of their union membership, collective bargaining covers a larger part of the labour force than that part which is unionized. These associations often represent their industries on other matters, e.g. proposed legislation.
