In mechanical or engineering terms, an expression of the ratio between energy or power input and output, usually expressed as a percentage.
In systems management it is an expression of input to output, but usually assessed as a relative concept and described as more or less efficient than an alternative. Efficiency is essentially about either maximising the benefit from the expenditure of a resource or minimising the cost of any defined level of benefit.
