Judaeo-Muslim sect formed in the 17th Century. As followers of *Shabbetai Zevi, they also coverted to Islam, but continued to observe many Jewish customs. They also retained their belief that Shabbetai was the *messiah. In the course of time, the group formed several different sects mainly based in Salonica.
