A bone at the anterior portion of the base of the brain on which the OLFACTORY BULB sits. The sensory neurons of the OLFACTORY EPITHELIUM send their axons through the cribriform plate to synapse on the OLFACTORY GLOMERULI of the MITRAL CELLS, which are in the olfactory bulb immediately above the cribriform plate (see OLFACTION).
