convulsions

A convulsion is a sudden, quite violent, involuntary contraction of the skeletal MUSCLES. Convulsions are often described as being TONIC or CLONIC. They may be present during epileptic seizures (see EPILEPSY) and are often seen, in rodents, immediately after a LESION has been induced by EXCITOTOXINS (though they do not persist in this case).
