Confucius

(Latin formation from Chinese Kong-(fu)-zi, ‘Master Kong’) Chinese philosopher.

In the year 174 BC one of the Han Emperors made sacrifice to him for the first time at his grave, which is still extant today Not long afterwards, the first Confucian temple was erected. Finally, in a decree issued in the closing years of the Chinese Empire (in 1906) Confucius was placed on the same footing as the supreme deities of heaven and earth. Tradition has it that at his birth two dragons hovered over the home of his parents.
