commissure

(from Latin, commissura: joining) The term commissure is given to any large bundle of FIBRES that crosses from one cerebral HEMISPHERE to the other, thereby joining them. The largest and best known of the commissures is the CORPUS CALLOSUM. Commissural describes a commissure; and commissurotomy is the act of cutting a commissure (see SPLIT BRAIN).
