Chinese Taoist writer and philosopher, who by his writing consolidated the teaching of Lao-Tzu and his Tao-Tê-Ching and so founded Taoism (d. c. 280 B.C.) Taoism has strong affinities with Zen. See, Chuang-Tzu, Mystic and Moralist, trans. Giles (1926).
